A toon shader for blender that work with both Cycles and Eevee and is made to be completely independent of Unity's light system. This means you have COMPLETE and RELIABLE control over it's behavior.

How to Use:

  1. In your blender project you want to use the shader in, go to File>Append.
  2. Navigate to the CasToon.blend file you downloaded form this store page.
  3. After you select CasToon.blend, go to the NodeTree folder, then select CasToon.
  4. Now in your material shader editor, you can use CTRL+A and search for the CasToon node and plug it in to your material output.

If you want the light control object like in the video, you will have to set that up using drivers. The CasToon.blend file has the example in it :)


Here's a list of properties and explanations for some of them!

Shader Properties:

  • Light Position
    • This is controlled by the round "Gizmo" in the scene, which represents the light source position. Support for multiple will be added in the future.
  • Shadow Sharpness
  • Shadow Offset
    • Changes the contact position of the shadow to be closer or further from the "light source" position.
  • Base Color
    • Color of the lit surface region. You can use a single color or plug in a texture to the shader input node.
  • Shadow Color
    • Same as Base Color, but for shaded surface region.
  • Specular Color
    • Color of the highlighted specular surface region.
  • Specular Intensity
    • Basically how "sharp" the specular highlight is.
  • Specular SizeRimlight Color
    • Color of the rimlight/fresnel effect on edges of surface.
  • Rimlight Size
  • Rimlight Sharpness
  • Metallic
    • How metallic (reflective-ish) the Masked Metallic region is.
  • Roughess
  • Metallic Mask
    • Takes in a black and white mask texture, where black mean no effect, and white means full metallic effect.


FAQ:

  • Does this work for previous versions of blender?
    • It is confirmed to function on 2.8 and above. If you're copying the object itself to an older version, make sure to enter edit mode to update the normal information for the shader.
  • How do I setup materials to use a light position object?
    • Right now you'll have to either type in the value manually or make a new driver/copy drivers from the example project. I'm working on a script right now to automate this process!
